Tea Prevents Type Two Diabetes


London, March 02: A new research has found that drinking a cup of black tea may prevent type 2 diabetes in humans. Type 2 diabetes or non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by high levels of blood sugar. US research conducted at Framingham State University explained that black tea restrains body glucose uptake sugars, excess causes type 2 diabetes, the Independent reported.

The author of research, said its results suggested that black tea and black tea pomace had potential for inhibition of carbohydrate hydrolyzing enzymes and this activity is dependent on phenolic compounds of high molecular weight. The researchers also mention that like green tea, black tea also has anti-diabetic activity.
Furthermore, various herbs and plants easily available in Indian households that have the potential to regulate sugar levels in the blood according to Ayurveda.

Tulsi leaves: also known as tulsi, holy basil leaves are full of antioxidants and essential oils that produce eugenol, methyl eugenol and caryophyllene. Collectively these substances help to work properly pancreatic beta cells (cells that store and release insulin). This in turn helps to increase insulin sensitivity.

Neem: Found abundantly in India, the bitter leaf has a number of amazing medicinal properties. Neem improves receiver sensitivity of insulin, helps to improve blood circulation by dilating blood vessels, lowers blood sugar levels and reduces dependence on hypoglycemic drugs.

Fenugreek or methi: paranthas and used in several Indian curries, methi has many health benefits. In recent times, clinical trials in people with type 2 diabetes show that fenugreek has the valuable property of reducing the rate at which sugar is absorbed from the stomach during digestion.
